Merging Speech-Language Pathology and ABA: Innovative Tools to Improve Speech and Language in Children with Autism.

Saturday and Sunday, October 6 & 7, 2018 in Nyon, Vaud in Switzerland

This seminar is intended for professionals, teachers, parents and anyone who is aware of autism

Seminar in English with simultaneous French translation

Description of the Seminar

This seminar will provide participants with knowledge about oral language production. They will learn to analyze the speech production errors that people may make and specific remediation aids.

Innovative procedures, which combine ABA science and speech therapy to improve oral language clarity, will be described and demonstrated. During the workshop, there will be frequent opportunities for practice and feedback.

The presentation will also explore the 6 “typical” language profiles of children and adolescents with autism. These profiles are designed to guide professionals and caregivers on how to divide therapy time between speech (verbal communication) and target augmentative alternative communication (e.g., signs, PECS, speech output device) and to provide specific behavioral procedures to establish and augment speech communication.

Participants will leave the conference with many effective tools to increase the voice communication skills of the people they work with.

Objectives

At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

– Identify the three aspects of speech that define all sounds in any language

– Determine which aspect(s) of the pronunciation of a sound is wrong by comparing the target sound and the error

– Determine which speech guidance procedure is most effective depending on which aspect of the sound is incorrect

– Demonstrate at least five guidance procedures to correct vocal sound errors

– Demonstrate the association of a phoneme or syllable with a motor-kinesthetic cue

– Describe the characteristics of six different speech-language profiles of children with autism

– Describe two behavioral analysis procedures to increase the likelihood of vocal imitation behaviors
